I wonder if people would be more receptive to the idea of degrowth if they understood that economic growth is actually a lie? The global economy massively *shrinks* every year. We are told it's growing because we can't put a price on the environment, and warfare *increases* GDP. Heck, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill increased GDP.
So degrowth is actually growth, once you account for the value of a livable biosphere.
