Born #onthisday in 1942, Stephen Hawking was, among so many other things, a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author, and at the time of his death, Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge [1].

Between 1979 and 2009 Hawking was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, a chair previously held by Isaac Newton, Charles Babbage and Paul Dirac, to name a few [2].

Hawking also had a great cameo on Star Trek:TNG [3]. His ashes are buried in Westminster Abbey, along with Newton, Darwin, Dirac and so many others [4].
