@Richard I still lift iron but on alternate days I do burpees starting with 20 and descending to 1. Each burpee repetition is completed with a corresponding push-up. Ultimately one ends up doing 210 burpees and 210 push-ups.

Beginners can start with half that number, that is, instead of doing a set of descending 20, begin with a set of 10. It builds muscle and explosive power.

On a separate note, it would be beneficial to do pull ups, and chin ups and concentrate on using the correct form in all these exercises. Stay strong.
