Probably true for most, but I'm not giving them all a pass for sincerely believing that shit, John Locke for instance. This hasn't all been an innocent mistake based on good intentions. Someone at some point knew they were making shit up and playing on people's existing beliefs (which were likely implanted by some previous huckster).
But I do agree that for the most part it's a self-perpetuating system of beliefs that most accept without thinking, questioning or examining, and that's part of why it's been so successful at conquering the world.
I've often made the case myself that #capitalism does not require secret conspiracies because everyone is on the same page with Capital's demands and coordinating out in the open. The logic of Capital allows people to wash their hands of horrendous things, all the time. It is quite effective in that regard.
