No homes or businesses for tens of miles around have electricity, with a few exceptions. I headed out to see if I could find a cup of coffee and the loaf of bread this morning before sunrise. Got coffee. No food available anywhere except McDonald's drive-thru within 10 mi of my house. and that line snakes for a mile back onto the road. There's very little official information, and in the many places I've driven, I've seen not one power company or government worker. I did meet and talk to four guys in a couple pickups driving place to place, clearing fallen trees from a major road. Self-appointed volunteers with chainsaws.

Where there's a lack of information, rumor fills the space. and I've heard some pretty wild ones, including "this is all part of the plan to control us" for more than one person, and "It's a sign of the end times" from many more. The consensus from those who've been able to access Duke Energy's website is that it will be several more days before we have power.
