Pronouns are very highly correlated with gender, but they are free for anyone to use. You don't need anyone's permission.
If you are cis or binary but you would feel comfortable with "they", put it as a pronoun option for yourself.
"They" is for anyone who wants to use it. Now is a good time to want to use it.
And if you know you wouldn't feel comfortable, then don't do that! (But that weird feeling you got about it - that's yours to use, a story to share when you're talking to people about why you think it's important to call people their correct pronouns.
