To clarify: The DOJ filed two motions: A motion to expedite reconsideration of the petition and the petition for a writ of certiorari before judgment.
What was granted was the "expedite" part.
Trump's grand plan was to have this land at the Supreme Court closer to the election in the hopes that they would wait to rule after the election.
