Influence as Currency: The Fiat Flaw Seeding Itself in #NOSTR

Today, social media is less about connection and more about influence—a currency in its own right. This fiat flaw has even found its way into NOSTR with zaps. While many don’t see it, influence-driven rewards mirror the same centralized game we’ve been trying to escape.

That said, zaps are powerful in this early stage. They encourage adoption and promote self-sovereignty, nudging people toward decentralized systems. But we must ask: What will zaps become in the future? Will we still reward ourselves endlessly for words spoken or pictures shared? Or will they evolve into something deeper—something tied to real value creation beyond just influence?

If NOSTR’s goal is true freedom and self-sovereignty, then even the mechanisms of reward must evolve, reflecting principles that go beyond fiat’s flaws. Otherwise, we risk rebuilding the same system in a decentralized disguise.

The future of zaps lies in purpose, not just popularity. 🟠💡
