This post interests me.
When I retired I did an art history course together with others of similar age.
Our tutor gave us an outline of things we might want to look for/think about when we see something presented as art.
What we liked tended towards the easily accessible or pleasant or uplifting.
At first.
Then she started to discuss the one rotting grape in a bowl of fruit. Or broken nutshells. Memento mori.
Regarding b&w photos ... they are an acquired taste. Be gentle.
