Have you seen how Stacker News (also Lightning-signed, social media with zaps, but more forum/discussion based) handles things? They offer muting, but they also have an algorithm that rewards zapping with a trust score between people.
(That said, in the month I've been there, I think I've only seen 3-5 regular users who have female names and/or avatars.)
