Niche improvement in French railway ticketing: the Chemins de fer de Provence now allow and encourage split ticketing (the guard will tell you if you try to buy an expensive ticket) between the kilométrique fare and the cheap flat-rate integrated Lignes d'azur fare available around Nice.
Last year it was forbidden with posters up warning against it, so it's nice that they've seen sense. The railway is totally independent of the SNCF so little hope that it will be replicated...
