I think that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And the complex interactions that human bodies create inside themselves and with other humans create emergent properties that are a lot greater than the sum of their parts. Things like consciousness and culture.
I guess those also persist after death in the way these influence later patterns of emergent properties, in other words as tradition and history.
The fact this happens every day fills me with awe and humility.
