I have “all season” Yokohamas (rated with the “3 peaks” logo and considered traction tires) on my Subaru for summer tires and occasionally have had them in shoulder season ice. There is no comparison to Blizzacks on icy mountain roads. Real winter only tires have amazing traction on ice, far better than all season tires, Better than chains. Also, consider this; having a set of summer tires and a set of winter tires (and rims) means both sets last longer than two sets of all season. The is more wear on all seasons from colder conditions (makes rubber harder)allowing tires to slip more in “gritted” conditions. Good summer tires last longer if not run the cold and grit.
