I saw something a little while ago along the "Cleopatra lived closer to modern day than to the building of the Pyramids" lines, to which someone replied that there is evidence of Egyptian archaeologists from, like 500BC or something (source: my very poor memory)
I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least some Hellenic Greeks were doing the same thing, finding Neolithic villages and the like, and fighting for recognition.
