I try to avoid saying it if I catch myself.

I was raised in the funeral home industry and in the US, 'passed away' is common language for saying someone died, and some think it is respectful, but I find it to emotional, distant and softening the reality of the situation leaving people open to an emotional reckoning at some point in the coming days.

But that is just how I feel about it.

I don't always catch myself, though.
