I feel like the fediverse fills the niche for a public log of events much better than any other service.
One server with minimal footprint can run live PR, customer interaction, Quality of Service updates, automated logs, announcements, discussions...
but on your own hardware and under your control. Nobody can take your voice from you except where it's literally illegal, everyone who cares can see it, everyone who cares can comment on it.
You determine your own level of participation.
