My wife asked me, a french/basque man, if the French dry off after using a bidet, or if they just sit there and wait for their butts to dry.

They dry it. The french are too good to clean their own 💩, and too proud to walk out of the bathroom with a wet butt. The bidet bulsters their pride while keeping their dignity.
