It is amazing how bad the modern build systems are. The worst offender is, of course, NPM. If you use NixOS, you may know that most Electron software in Nixpkgs isn't built from source. Instead, nixpkgs just re-packages binary releases from upstream, despite NixOS being source-based distro first and foremost. Even the founding project of Electron -- Atom, also known today as Pulsar -- is shipped this way.
