I use a multimeter to track down electrical gremlins all the time. Replacing stuff that isn't broken will get expensive after a while. Several times it's been an ignition switch or solenoid that came back to life after cleaning it out with WD. One perfectly good machine just needed a new fuse. Replacing the switch and coil would not have fixed it.
