I think friends just made the feeling worst, because by this point I actually expect them to help me out in one form or another. But lately I've just been getting shat on or they just purposely watch me drown. The concept of bromance does not work with me anymore, and friends are more like just random business associates. Everyone wants something from some one else, and no amount of 'oh I just hecking want your friendship because you're genuinely a good guy' is believable. They're humoring you because you're the court jester and the only way out of the game is legitimately to just shoot yourself.
