I dug out the prehistoric version of this from storage recently: an Alphasmart Neo. As a drafting tool it's still surprisingly adept, and AA battery life measured in hundreds of hours is a big bonus.
They future-proofed this thing incredibly well for 20 year old gear: It emulates a USB keyboard when you tether it to a computer. I just stream my rough draft into Ulysses on my Mac.
