Spanos had been in the role for just over a year, and his departure comes weeks after the company suffered a major disruption due to the CrowdStrike outage in July. Delta estimates that the disruptions cost the airline around $500 million. CEO Ed Bastian said in an employee memo that Spanos had told him earlier in the summer that he was considering opportunities outside of Delta. The company does not plan to replace Spanos, and instead, John Laughter and Allison Ausband will report directly to Bastian.",
