The problem, historically, is that the USA has presumed they can overthrow a completely different culture's government and come out ahead.
If you read Thomas Paine's Common Sense in 1776 (a relatively short read), the USA was a fluke of underdogs who found meaning in defeating their very-much-larger parent nation.
We find meaning in winning, and there's no meaning if someone else did the winning for us. Extra points for Muslim instead of Christian/Deist background.
