With React, for example, you can wrap the usual app components with something that has a useState for the error message that gets updated upon error as well as a conditional check to replace everything with an error message if it's not blank. Gimkit, for example, does exactly that. (that's also how I learned about that trick)
Vanilla JavaScript/HTML is going to be somewhat more difficult to add that to though.
