I used to be against “made by us” mentality, but I’ve since changed my mind. After being on several teams where a portion of our code base was written by engineers long gone, sometimes a rewrite really helps with:
- team comprehension and support of the (new) code base
- better feature support as “bolt on” features become properly integrated
- developer satisfaction
