Streaming about drama is not the same as hacking into someone's computer to release their nudes though.
As for dms on the fedi, that's just how any private messaging without end to end encryption is going to work, whoever runs the site can read everything you say. From what I've heard they didn't even get everyone's dms, just Claire's own personal dms.
