Lord of the Rings still stands above all fantasy and sci-fi literature written ever since. No book or series comes close to displaying the same care for liberty and moral values shown in LOTR. It's the only fantasy novel not set in a fiat world.

Seriously, it would be nice to come across fantasy or sci-fi that doesn't just devolve into a socialist dystopian nightmare.
