Ah OK, Damus is a bit weird because Apple has decided zaps aren't allowed. SOMEONE (definitely NOT the Damus dev jb55 (npub1xts…kk5s), who is a diligent rule follower) came up with a nice workaround:

I'm not on iOS and haven't used Damus so I'm not certain this solution is pertinent to your specific problem but I'd give it a try.
