Been idly pining for a monochrome digital camera (i.e. one without a Bayer mask)
Turns out I had one all along: one of the four cameras on my Motorola Android phone is a low-resolution monochrome sensor used in support of image stabilization /night-shot features of the main sensor, but otherwise "hidden" in the original camera app.
The open-source FreeDCam app allows direct access to this monochrome camera, along with manual ISO and exposure time adjustments.
