"content": "This is certainly an issue in some Family History orgs. Long established hierarchies, which are then somewhat baffled when their calls for “new blood” to take over the volunteer roles aren’t answered (possibly because any suggestion of changing the way things are done is rebuffed) need shifting. I know of at least one NSW local Family History Society whose membership dwindled to the point where there were 3 or 4 older members left, the society was dissolved, and the records were taken over by the local library - at which point, there was a sudden burst of interest as people became aware and were better able to access the resources. \nHeritage museums and volunteering needs new ideas, it’s not just demographics and covid which have changed things. (Sorry if I’m repeating what’s been said, I’m very tired and I’m just someone on the sidelines.)",
