I agree with that. But we don't. "The economy" is issue number one on voters' priority list by far, and climate change is #18, well below immigration. So unless policies can show a meaningful improvement to the economy over the span of a term, politicians get voted out.
The only way things are going to change in even the most perfect democracy is if voters' priorities change. And that's probably going to take multiple catastrophes clearly linked to climate change. And I mean big ones, because we're incredibly good at just adapting to smaller ones.
