-International Events-
1. Israeli strikes kill 492 in Lebanon’s deadliest day of conflict since 2006: Israeli strikes Monday on Lebanon killed more than 490 people, including more than 90 women and children, Lebanese authorities said, in the deadliest barrage since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.
Thousands of Lebanese fled the south, and the main highway out of the southern port city of Sidon was jammed with cars heading toward Beirut in the biggest exodus since 2006. In a recorded message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Lebanese civilians to heed Israeli calls to evacuate, saying “take this warning seriously.” (AP)
2. World leaders meet under shadow of global divisions, 3 wars and possible Mideast conflict: World leaders will open their annual meeting at the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday under the shadow of increasing global divisions, major wars in Gaza, Ukraine and, Sudan and the threat of an even larger conflict in the wider Middle East. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres previewed his opening “State of the World” speech to presidents, prime ministers, monarchs and ministers at Sunday’s “Summit of the Future,” saying “our world is heading off the rails — and we need tough decisions to get back on track.” He also cited huge inequalities, the lack of an effective global system to respond to emerging and even existential threats, and the devastating impact of climate change. Japan Warns Russia Over Violating Airspace, Fires Flares for First Time: Japanese jet fighters fired warning flares at a Russian military reconnaissance plane that violated Japan’s airspace on Monday, the first time Tokyo has taken such an aggressive stance against incursions of its airspace mostly carried out by Moscow. A Russian IL-38 patrol plane entered Japanese airspace three times between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. local time Monday/ (WSJ)
-US Events-
1. Former AG Barr 'dumbfounded' at DOJ’s decision to release letter of Trump would-be assassin: Former Attorney General William Barr says he is "dumbfounded" that the Justice Department released a chilling letter penned by would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh on Monday, calling the decision "rash" and serving no purpose "other than to risk inciting further violence." The DOJ obtained the letter from a witness who says they received it inside a box delivered to them by Routh several months prior to the assassination attempt. (Fox)
2. Hurricane, tropical storm watches issued for Florida ahead of possible Category 3 hurricane: The storm that is expected to become a hurricane Wednesday could become a Category 3 hurricane with 115-mph winds by the time it makes landfall Thursday. "The potential for life-threatening storm surge and damaging hurricane-force winds along the coast of the Florida Panhandle and the Florida west gulf coast is increasing," the Hurricane Center said. 3. US is sending more troops to the Middle East as violence rises between Israel and Hezbollah: Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, Pentagon press secretary, would not say how many more forces would be deployed or what they would be tasked to do. The U.S. now has about 40,000 troops in the region. (AP)
-Regulatory and Legal-
1. Republicans Push to Rescind SEC's Controversial Crypto Custody Rule: Over 40 Republican lawmakers, led by Patrick McHenry and Cynthia Lummis, have urged the SEC to rescind the controversial crypto custody rule, SAB 121. 1. Russia Pushes for Sustainable BRICS Interbank Networks and Payment Systems: Russia is pushing to develop independent interbank networks and payment systems within BRICS to boost the bloc’s financial influence. Moscow aims to expand cross-border settlements and the use of national currencies in BRICS trade, as part of a strategy to reduce dependence on Western financial institutions. These efforts have gained attention during Russia’s BRICS presidency, drawing interest from countries looking for alternatives to the dollar and euro. (BitcoinCom)

1. S&P 500, Dow Rise to Fresh Records: The S&P 500 rose by 0.3%, and the Dow Jones gained 0.1%, both achieving fresh record highs on Monday after last week's rally prompted by the Fed's first rate cut in four years, set at 50 basis points. (TradingEconomics)
2. US Manufacturing Activity Unexpectedly Falls Faster: The S&P Global US Manufacturing PMI fell to 47 in September of 2024 from 47.9 in the previous month, contrasting with market expectations that it would rise to 48.5, marking the third consecutive month of contraction in the US factory activity at the sharpest pace in over one year. Telegram says it will share phone numbers and IP addresses of ‘bad actors’ to authorities: Founder Pavel Durov said on Monday that Telegram will now disclose the IP addresses and phone numbers of users who violate the app’s rules to relevant authorities “in response to valid legal requests.” The new policy applies to users suspected of any violation of Telegram’s rules. (RecordedFuture) (AC-With sufficient pressure, such as arresting and charging the CEO with child porn, centralized systems can be co-opted relatively easy.)
-Technology and Science-
1. Apple Wallet's Gov't ID Support Coming Soon to 4 New Regions After Rolling Out in California: First, three additional US states would support Apple Wallet's digital ID capabilities to be used at certain checkpoints, allowing its constituents to present their identification through the iPhone and Apple Watch. -Bitcoin Community-
1. Central Reserve Bank: Only 1.1% of Remittances Involve Cryptocurrency in El Salvador: The adoption of cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin, for remittances has failed to surge in El Salvador, even with the support of President Nayib Bukele’s administration. According to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank, only 1.1% of all remittances sent to the country from January to August 2024 include cryptocurrency. (BitcoinCom) (AC-Why have remittances in cryptocurrencies fallen in ES over the last 3 years even after government incentives to do so? The answer to this question may open up worldwide adoption very quickly. There is a practical aspect of P2P worldwide transfers that most bitcoiners are missing. Opportunity knocks.)
