"summary",
"The plant, operated by Vencorex, had been facing financial struggles due to increasing competition from Chinese companies, particularly after 2022. The French company, whose sole shareholder was the Thai petrochemical group PTT Global Chemical, was placed under external administration in September 2024. Two proposals were submitted to the Commercial Court of Lyon, one from Wanhua's Hungarian subsidiary BorsodChem and the other a plan to create a cooperative society of collective interest. The court deemed the Chinese company's offer, which included a €10 million investment but proposed reducing the workforce from 300 to 50-60 employees, the more viable solution."
