I don't know what you mean by "reach" but if a platform gives people the impression that they are "following" you but then your notes don't reach that people that are supposedly following you that is the big problem.
The alternative is the platform saying "I will decide what you see", but then it has to be honest about it and not trick users with fake "follow" buttons.
