I'm not a scholar of the subject, but my understanding is that early 20th century "futurism" -- as the term was understood to apply to an artistic movement -- was quite proximal to the emergent political fascism of the day.
The fascination with the sleek aerodynamics of the car, the plane, the rocket -- aesthetics of rapid and decisive technological action -- fit in well with the idea that "Men of Action" should be on charge.
Quite a parable for our times...
