The one takeaway from it is that society has gone through very dark periods where people have lost all faith in the ability for society to pull through. Institutions are insufficient to tackle the challenges of today and historical inertia seems to be preventing any meaningful change. Kind of like with #ClimateChange today. History has examples of us coming through these periods by making rapid changes after a rapid systems shift.

That makes me hopeful.
