I'm the first and only data engineer and analyst at a company of about 50 people. Database is all SQL, and data is ingested with Python. It's all finance, point-of-sale, spreadsheet mess, and marketing data that's been heavily transformed for specific ways that C-level want to see it, and the requirements change every day. Yesterday, I had a project manager-type VC owner say that our VP wants him to learn SQL and Python, and this guy said "I'm going to learn it from ChatGPT, and after that I can take half of your work so we get done faster". Dude has literally no tech or programming background. I said "ChatGPT can help you learn the syntax, but the integration of the logic and understanding the data is going to be a whole other thing". His response was "ok what language is the integration done in?". I don't even know how to explain this stuff anymore.
