I think you said it right there - go meet your dang neighbors. Depending on where you live, this can be as simple as going outside. We have a farm and a city house. In town, we took out the lawn and put gardens in the front yard. Our street is very busy with people walking, jogging, etc. We met more of our neighbors in the first few months of tending those gardens than we had in years before that. Meeting the farm neighbors required going to community events like the July 4th parade.
