Another thing that was super confusing for me, and you address a little bit in your post, is that footnotes on the web and endnotes are conflicting!
Footnotes imply they are in the foot! But it seems that they are intended to be short/individual notes within the body! Whereas endnotes are the collection of notes listed at the end of the work.
