Rescue helicopters can't fly at over 120F/49C because the air isn't dense enough for them to be able to maneuver safely near the ground and around obstacles. That temperature at sea level gives a density altitude (equivalent altitude at standard conditions) of almost 4000ft/1200m!
As a result, California is starting to have rescue flights canceled because of heat.
