Speaking of radios, GMRS radios are a very affordable option that allow you to use repeaters to significantly extend your range. You need a license, and you’ll receive a call sign, but you don’t have to take a test like you would for a HAM license. Just pay a small fee.
I use them for the same reason npub1t6crnw33sucaqep4pvuz43rnehp34q6tuwx5l2ekxy9h3gnu0fws7ate3j (npub1t6c…te3j) mentions, which is I don’t trust that I’ll have any telephone service when the time comes.
