Western depictions of Japan treat the whole 2000 or so years of Japanese history as just the Edo period and it's so funny.
You have depictions of Queen Himiko that look like a Geisha or Oiran when... no? lol
Himiko lived in a period long before those professions existed? lol
And you always hear Tsugaru style Shamisen in the soundtracks of Samurai stuff despite the Shamisen not really being an instrument of the Samurai class, and the specific Tsugaru only having been invented in the Meiji period and didn't fully develop until the 1900s
