Transpower has revealed the cause of the Northland pylon collapse. A contractor was doing routine maintenance on the base plate and the nuts securing the tower to the foundation. These were "removed, cleaned and treated by Omexon staff."
"During this work, too many nuts were removed. And the tower fell over on its side."
Some silly bugger removed all the nuts on three sides!
