Traffic leaving Cape Cod during summer weekends has always been execrable, thanks only two exit points: The very aged Bourne and Sagamore bridges, both of which span the Cape Cod Canal.
Both are due to be replaced in the next decade or so, but in the interim, residents and visitors have to deal with nonsense like a 30+ mile backup on Route 6 West yesterday. Here's what Route 6 looked like a few moments ago. It's early yet, and it will get a lot worse.
