When my former health care provider retired a few years back, I needed to find a new one. I chose a nurse practitioner at a clinic in my neighborhood.
In the clinic's waiting room and on their website, I saw notices that they do not accept Medicare (subsidized US healthcare coverage for seniors) or Medicaid (subsidized US healthcare for low income).
When they called to remind me to schedule my annual physical this year, I told them I had switched providers because I don't think it is ethical that they do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
"It's really not ethical and I don't believe its the way to go," I said, "so I have chosen a different provider and a different clinic. I'll be sending a request to transfer my records soon."
