I've posted about this before, but it bears repeating, and Bread and Circuses' post about melting glaciers in central Asia reminded me of it. Extreme weather gets a lot of attention, but it's not how climate change is going to kill billions and cause the collapse of civilization. It's water.

The thing that first made me realizing this was seeing this bit at the end of The Big Short and wondering what it meant by "investing in water". It turns out Burry, like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, has been investing in farmland that has secure access to water, because trying to contain, transport, and sell water is not only more expensive for a lower-value commodity, but brings up images from the movie Solarbabies in people's minds. Because, you know, so many people have seen & remember Solarbabies. (They literally cover the oceans to control people, but in reality they won't need to do that; climate change is making water scarce for us.)
