The Nostr protocol is less overtly-constricting than other protocols (and it changes more rapidly) because it leaves room for interpretation, but it gives a disproportionate advantage to first-movers. They define the protocol for everyone following, without the need to form a consensus.
In that way, it is truly more like human speech. The most-effective development army (for each topic) can determine which language will be spoken. As if each NIP were a new dialect, established by the persons who have claimed the space and put up a flagpost.
