please make your alien culture(s) in a first contact situation more alien than, say, Spanish conquistadors encountering Mayans.
The protagonist of the book I am currently reading is having less cultural difficulty than a modern Norwegian tourist in Boston.
Not going to say what it is; just, please do better.
