They came to our schools for outreach. They put on events. They SEEMED nice.
It was only when I grew up that I found out that they're not good and that the "middle-class" white experience is drastically different than the experience of pretty much everyone else.
I know better now, but I could have easily gone the rest of my life believing they were the "good guys" if things had been different. If all you do as a white person is interact with other privileged white people, you don't really get any exposure to reality unless you're at least a decent critical thinker.
Not excusing it because the evidence is actually everywhere. Just saying I can see how some white people believe cops serve some kind of positive function in society, but they're wrong.
