Russian shaving soaps are generally underwhelming. Most local artisans just don’t have the skill set to compete at a higher level, and any serious attempt to improve the product inevitably drives up the price — which instantly prices out the bulk of their customer base. As long as the soap stays in the $5–8 range, people are willing to buy it. But the moment it hits $30, sales tank, because at that price, you’re better off getting something American-made by people who actually know what they’re doing. It’s a dead-end cycle with no real way out.
